Open gate, open invitation in my book.

Open invitations just scream come right in and explore the place. If open gates give you pause then you're thinking wrong because I strolled right in like I owned the place. Entering the doorway I hear the raging waters of a burst pipe filling the basement with drinkable water unknown to the owners and city.

Climbing the stairs to my left were oil meters and switch boxes used to dispense and assess how much petroleum oil was leaving the site and on site. To my right was the thrashed records room by the looks of it due to the huge amount of papers scattered all over the ground. Heading upstairs more office space opened up. Better in appearance than downstairs, the office cubicles contained various old computer equipment and bookkeeping records. Nothing of unique note inside an administrative floor of a fuel facility.

A bird's eye snapshot of the building and the surrounding businesses. Rockaway Metal Products (RMP) began as a sheet metal fabrication factory in 1961. RMP occupied the site from 1971 to 1987, leaving a plethora of hazardous waste materials onsite. From 1990 to 2004 the building housed various tenants, which even included an auto repair shop. Rockaway Metal, a manufacturer of filing cabinets and other metal products, closed down in 1987. It was leased a few years ago to different owners who did not manage the 4.85-acre parcel. The 155,000-square-foot building had long been an eyesore and trouble in the neighborhood since its closure. A coastal storm in March 2018 blew debris materials onto adjacent properties. Rockaway Metal was acquired by Nassau County in 1995 by tax deed, and the county held onto the property for more than 22 years. Rare Taisei Kogaku 135mm Twin Tele A remarkable lens from Japan, very sharp wide open, of the famous zeiss inspired design with preset aperture. It's well made, all glass and steel, with excellent color and contrast. The optics in this lens are amazing, it is simple and it works. It's bokeh and colour rendering are brilliant and it's as sharp as a razor. This is one of the mythical lenses of the days of lore, and hard to find even on ebay. There is about 340 degrees of rotation on the focus ring. The lens came with a 2X adapter as well. This series of lenses (model 680) were made between 1962 & 1969. The included tele converter is shown in the picture. This gave the kit the twin tele name. Post Update — September 2026 🎓 The Doll House was saved: 350 Grand Street is becoming a high school Everything above was written when the fencing and the netting looked like the last act. It was not. The building at 350 Grand Street is not being demolished — it is being adaptively reused as the new high school campus of Foundation Academies . The charter school's own audited financial statements record the transaction: on 29 August 2024 Foundation purchased the land and building at 350 Grand Street for $4.8 million , and on 16 December 2024 sold it to Friends of Foundation Academy, a related non-profit, for $3.5 million, which is developing and renovating the site and will lease it back to the school.
