Cayadutta Tanning Company: Inside Gloversville's Dead Tannery

Image
The Pink Flamingo on Harrison Street Whether it is a dead mill or tannery, a car will always be sitting in a discrete corner.  Gloversville, New York, earned its name for a reason. For decades, it was the undisputed glove capital of the world. But today, the massive tanneries, dressers, stitching factories, and dyers that built this city are quietly disappearing. One of the most fascinating casualties was the former Cayadutta Tanning Company Inc. Locals called it the Pink Flamingo. Before that, it was E.S. Parkhurst & Company, a place workers simply knew as the Hair Mill. Sitting at the southwest corner of Harrison Street and NY-30A, the property spanned two parcels. A private owner held one piece of the land, while the city owned the other. Visiting the abandoned site felt like stepping into a forgotten tannery that just needed a bit of TLC and elbow grease to restart operations sans a pocketed overhead roof. Just outside the main tanning building, a junked Mercedes sa...

Liberté, Égalité & Fraternité (A Tribute to Paris)

Image
In the coming days, weeks, and months, humanity must decide whether love will prevail or the conflict of war. Let us not be blinded by fear by those who would like us to live in a world where violence, bombings, and murder are ingrained in our society. Love must stand up strong against the tide of violence and evil. Praying for the whole world to find love and peace. May those who lost loved ones in Paris find solace in the times ahead. Center oneself and let meditation and light guide you. Do not let darkness take over.🙏 Where there is darkness there is light. Find the way forward.  Is it the path of war? (Right) Is it the path of love and peace? (Left) Which side will humanity choose?

Cloudy With Chance of City Rain

Image
Headed down to the Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier to cop some night photos of the lower Manhattan buildings and I was not disappointed. Some nice cloud cover was coming in as I was taking photos. That cloud cover began to envelop the World Trade Center building but I could not dip over due to that same cloud cover bringing the rain with it. It looks like some wet days ahead. Loving the blue touch of the NYPD Coast Guard cruising relentlessly back and forth.

Cubing on the Horizon

Blogger really compresses the cotton stuffing out of pictures on here. Tumblr is looking better and better each day but I digress. I was really going for a galaxy look up visual here. As you know its really hard to get stars in your pictures in New York City with all the haze, cloud cover and distracting lights distorting the views up in the heavens. Matter of fact this picture was taking during the daytime.  I'm going to revisit this edit later on to play with darker tones of blue and dark. Or go back to this spot at night time. Stay tuned.

Battleship

Really digging this composition except for the maintenance cranes struck between its spires. Will have to revisit this shot again sometime when there is no construction equipment around. Next up is a night shoot down this area. Location: World Trade Center Path Station

I don't think I can afford to live here.

Lost My Boat...
