After the Fire: What Remains of Gloversville Continental Mills A Field of Bricks The bricks were everywhere. Not stacked, not standing. Just scattered across the ground like something vast had simply let go. What used to be Mill No. 3 of the former Gloversville-Continental Mills now spread out before me like a field of rubble, stretching from Beaver Street all the way back to the Cayadutta Creek bank. Thousands of bricks, the same ones that had held this building upright through more than a century of American manufacturing history, lay in random heaps with nowhere left to go. In one corner, pressed against a sealed-off wall, sat what remained of steel beams, HVAC machinery, and other miscellaneous load-bearing beams and the remains of 40 historical knitting machines. The fire had taken everything soft about them. What was left were twisted red-brown skeletons of rust and charred metal, piled on top of each other like they had tried to hold on and failed.   With the explosion of NFT art online it was only time before someone brought it from the computer pixels into the real world with an awesome mural. This Brooklyn NFT mural wall showcases the premier NFTs that gave profound fame and monetary glory to artists all over the world. It took me some time to reach here but I was glad I came to marvel at this superb display of 2021's best moment in time.

Pixel Shifting Whilst Urbexing Using A Sony a7R IV

Last week I had the opportunity to go out in the field to find interesting subjects to pixel shift using Sony's latest a7R series the a7R IV. I always wanted to find out what I could bring back using this feature that allows users to create in-depth and highly detailed pictures using 16 shots combined into one.  218.0MP Pixel Shift File Denoising Buttery and soft. Now I have come back with results and I have found that it can be done in dilapidated warehouses and other decaying buildings but during my pixel-peeping foray I found that the background was quite soft and muddy. I happen to believe this may due to the focusing area not being selected correctly or my Zeiss Batis 25mm is not as sharp as it touts to be which could be farthest from the truth. I surmise maybe the shifting daylight may have distorted the picture but I can only test that hypothesis on another field test in whether that may not be the case.  In the example above, the 'PENT' graffiti was taken without a...

What had remained from the continuing demolition with the BQE highway in the background.   🌾 S.W. Bowne Grain Storehouse Update — July 2026 The historic S.W. Bowne Grain Storehouse , a landmark of Red Hook's industrial waterfront since 1886, was demolished during the summer of 2018 . The demolition followed a significant fire that had severely damaged the structure, and was carried out over Labor Day weekend without a city permit or demolition order. As of July 2026 , the site at 595-611 Smith Street is now a construction storage lot , serving the ongoing development and redevelopment projects in the surrounding Red Hook and Gowanus neighborhoods. The property remains owned by the Chetrit Group . 🌾 The S.W. Stillmanville Woolen Mill (Connecticut Castings Mill)

Exterior of Stillmanville Mill from the street. 🧵 Stillmanville Woolen Mill Update — April 2019 The historic Stillmanville Woolen Mill , also known as the Connecticut Castings Mill , was demolished in April 2019 . The property, located along the Pawcatuck River in Pawcatuck, Connecticut, had operated under numerous business names over its long history, including the Westerly Shirt Company , Eagle Waste & Metal Company , Arnold Brothers Westerly Woolen Mills , and the Lenox Shirt Factory . Today, all that remains of the 19th-century mill complex is the foundation pad and the underground tail race that once channeled water from the Pawcatuck River to power the machinery inside. Long gone is the foot bridge that spanned the Pawcatuck River where workers walked from Connecticut straight over the border to Westerly, Rhode Island. I had fun with this shoot the other day. Learned quite a lot and found it quite challenging to find compositions and perspectives. Car photography is not my cup of tea but with some more work and more time with different colorful subjects I can definitely see loads of improvement. Brooklyn's Secret Cove

  One of Brooklyn's best-kept secrets or shall I say the most underdeveloped park in Brooklyn. Herein lies a small hidden cove home to an abandoned boat that has been permanently moored in this cove as far back as 2012. Will Ellis, AbandonedNYC's , writer and explorer, checked out this small waterfront way back in the day in 2014. In addition, Atlas Obscura also wrote a small undated piece on this abandoned vessel. A couple months ago, a generous low tide allowed me to get up close and personal with this wet bucket of metal, plastic, and seaweed. I've always had it on my ever-long and expanding list of locations to visit since I viewed it on Will Ellis' website years ago when I was giddy with excitement when I first started exploring as a hobby and now as a serious life endeavor.   Long before Amsterdam, New York, earned its title as the “Carpet City,” its story was written in water. The restless energy of the Chuctanunda Creek, a modest stream tumbling through the Mohawk Valley, was the city’s first engine. By the early 1800s, its currents were powering the fledgling mills, setting the stage for a transformation that would define not just a city, but an entire era of American industry. Former East New York 75th Precinct Station (153rd Precinct)

Station House facing Liberty Avenue & Miller Avenue Historical Completed in 1891, the former Romanesque Revival style with Venetian and Noram Revival ornament structure was created by 'architect' George Ingram, who is cited as the designer of the building. Architect Emile M. Grewe is also credited with having a hand in the collaboration. George Ingram was an assistant engineer in the Department of City Works in 1886, who was not a trained architect by trade. The building accommodated about 80 patrolmen, cells, and a stable via a passageway from the main building. Back then, it was known as the 17th precinct (Originally the 153rd precinct).  Entrance to the horse stable. Opening in 1892, the first detainee was John Pocahontas Smith, who was arrested for public drunkenness. In the 1930s, it was renamed the 75th precinct.     The climb to the old Dart Stone Mill wasn't for the faint of heart. My friend J and I huffed our way up that punishing incline, shirts clinging to our backs, calves screaming in protest. But we'd made this trek before, drawn back time and again to this crumbling monument perched high above Vernon, Connecticut. There's something about abandoned mills that gets under your skin, and this one had its hooks in us deep. When Albert Dart built this place back in 1868, he picked the most dramatic real estate in all of Rockville. The mill sits on a rock ledge at the second millseat below Snipsic Lake, clinging to the cliff face like it grew there naturally. And in a way, it may have. The lake fed water to nearly 39 mills as it descended through the valley, dropping ten inches in elevation along the way. That's a lot of industrial muscle powered by gravity alone. Bayside Fuel Oil Depot Corporation (Part 2)

Before the Bayside Company was fully known as the Bayside Fuel Oil Corporation. It was transferred by Standard Oil, its previous owner, in the 1940s. Its primary use before that time was mainly for storage and refinery purposes. Later on, it became a wholesale distributor of heating oil. Founded by Charles Pratt, it was one of about fifty refineries operating in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. During the 19th century, Williamsburg was the center of oil refining along the East River & Newton Creek. Fun facts, "some of the largest industrial firms in the nation were started in this area (inland & along Newtown Creek), including Pfizer Pharmaceutical Corporation (1849); Brooklyn Flint Glass (later Corning Glassware ); and the Havemeyers and Elder Sugar Refinery in Williamsburg (later Amstar and then Domino ), once the largest establishment in the world."
