Long Exposure Spring Break Night 2013



Tonight, I got out to take some long exposure night photography. Boy was it cold! Standing around in the aftermath of 12 inches of snow accumulation on the first day of Spring is no easy feat in itself. Luckily, I came back with all my toes and fingers. I envy those down in Cancun, Mexico, Panama City and Miami right about now.

Hopefully with the weather about to warm up I can finally take out my Canon DSLR rather than my trusty Sony point and shoot camera and take better pictures. My first night time photography was a bitter cold success. Next time I will have a larger tripod, interchangeable lens and more time to compose my shots in an urban environment rather than the suburbs.


No waist height tripod so that is why this shot is so low.

This was filled in with flash on top of a hill.

Station House facing Liberty Avenue & Miller Avenue Historical Completed in 1891 the former Romanesque Revival style with Venetian and Noram Revival ornament structure was created by 'architect' George Ingram who is cited as the designer of the building. Quick test of the Quantaray 70-210mm 1:4.5 M42 mount lens using the Canon T3i neutral setting. Quick touch up in Light Room 4 (Lr) and exported. I gave it a gritty 1960's feel to it. More to come!

Former Bronx Gulf Center to Become MTA Electric Bus Depot

I remember it was rather cold this day and nearly lost my fingers flying the drone around the complex. Entering the complex was rather easy since the drive-in gate was unlocked and unsecured. From the first look of it, the site was definitely an illegal dumping ground. The still-standing batting range with its intact green netting and overgrown golf hill facades stuffed with weeds. The place definitely had a family atmosphere minus the mini rainforest. The golf tee pavilion was a site to behold standing in the grass looking dead center to the structure. Beneath my feet, I could make out various colorful branded golf balls all over the ground. I eventually took a couple golf balls home as souvenirs knowing full well that next time I won't be as lucky to enter the property again. A former golf driving range shows purpose for Bronx residents to become an all-electric bus depot. 246 Patchen Ave (Former Hackies Snack Bar)

I am not a fan of houses in particular but lately, while I am out cruising, I am starting to find myself composing different vacant and derelict buildings throughout the city. The juxtaposition of active and colorful buildings next to it contrasted with the dull and muted colors and feel of it as an isolated subject in the city that never sleeps just pops out more. I already knew when I pulled up this boarded apartment building I knew the orange and brown stonework would pop with a little editing in Adobe Lightroom with no problem. Plus, the sky was overcast and cold which I knew would give it that New York City winter vibe immediately.  We’ll see where these vibes lead down the road. For now, stay dangerous.

Star Pin Company Shelton CT: An Insider Look

Historical Star Pin Company was first located in Far Mill River in the Wells Hollow area of Huntington before moving to Canal Street in 1875 due to booming business and the Ousatonic dam upstream that provided crucial industrial energy. It had also used power generated by the Fulling Mill Brook before moving to Canal. The company that manufactured hairpins, pins, and eyes for clothing was founded on September 25, 1866, with a starting capital of $40,000. A hefty sum of capital for that period. In addition, it was the only factory in Shelton that was made of brick. In the early 1950s, the company even produced the packaging and boxes that held the pins.
